Earlier this summer we reported that because Steve Saleen retook control of his high-performance car company, not only would there be plenty more tuned Mustangs, but also a new supercar at some point down the road. Nothing was fully confirmed but it was clear that Saleen very much wanted that car to happen. The only question was when. Today, however, we seem to have our answer. In an interview with Motor Trend, Steve Saleen confirmed that his new supercar will hit the market in two years’ time.
Saleen didn’t provide much in the way of details, but he did indicate it would heavily borrow elements from the stillborn Saleen S5S Raptor concept. Powered by a supercharged 5.0-liter V8 with 650 horsepower, Saleen pictured the car having a price tag of around $200,000 to keep it competitive with other mid-engined supercars like the Ferrari 458 and Lamborghini Gallardo. That’s fairly cheap considering Saleen’s previous supercar, the S7, which started off at $395,000. So why didn’t the S5S Raptor make production five years ago? Because Saleen left the company he founded over management disputes. Now that he’s back at the helm, things are going to be done his way again.
