Lexus Officially Goes Insane With LF-NX Crossover Concept

It looks like something designed for the Power Rangers.
One thing is for certain: Lexus is done with bland styling. Instead, it’s gone completely nuts with its latest styling language, which seems like it’s been inspired by Darth Vader’s helmet and an hour glass. Love it or hate it (there’s really no grey zone here), Lexus has been applying it to all of its latest models, and now the LF-NX Crossover Concept has come into our lives. Lexus is calling it a "study that explores the potential for this kind of vehicle in the lineup."

It’s basically a mid-size crossover with a full hybrid system. It’s powered by a 2.5-liter engine with 156 horsepower and an electric power that contributes an additional 44 hp. The automaker claims the LF-NX has been tuned for "SUV performance." For now, the concept is front-wheel-drive, but Lexus says it isn’t ruling out an all-wheel drive system later on. The interior features a "Human Oriented" theme thanks to a new touchpad Remote Touch Interface design. The dash and center console are also quite dramatic designs, but at least Lexus is making an effort to be interesting for once.
If you haven’t guessed by now, the LF-NX concept is taking direct aim at the likes of the Audi Q5 and Range Rover Evoque. Design project manager Nobuyuki Tomatsu stated that "We want this to be a very influential car - one to make its rivals look boring." Or just sane. More details to come from the floor of the Frankfurt Motor Show next week.
