Porsche Looking to Add Four New Models

Remember the days when Porsche built just a couple of models?
Up until just a few years ago, Porsche was known solely as a sports car company. But ever since the arrival of both the Cayenne and Panamera, it’s become clear the automaker has the ability to cater to a wider audience. And that means more money, hence the decision to expand its model lineup even more over the next few years. In addition to the 918 Spyder and November launch of the Macan small SUV, a new report is claiming that Porsche is looking to add four models to its lineup in the near future.

First up is that long rumored, on-and-off again baby Boxster. Now, this car has been discussed for quite some time, but Porsche just couldn’t make a business case for it. However, if the upcoming Macan brings in some serious bank, then Porsche will re-examine this entry-level sports car, but don’t expect anything to happen before 2017. Porsche is also looking to expand its sedan business by building a BMW 5 Series and Mercedes E-Class fighter, potentially to be called the Pajun. The idea is still being explored but executives are a bit concerned that adding a second sedan to the lineup could dilute Porsche’s sports car image.
The third model is the one everyone is going to want to see happen, a Ferrari 458 fighter. Currently codenamed the 960, it would be mid-engined and cost close to $250,000. Power would likely come from a new 3.9-liter boxer eight-cylinder engine that may have as many as four turbochargers, for a total of 650 horsepower. Last up is the possibility of a Panamera coupe. Now, nothing is going to happen with the current generation model, but a new Panamera is coming in the very near future and the idea of having a grand touring model is quite tempting. If we had to predict at least one of these coming to market, our money would be on the Panamera GT coupe.
